I find myself drawn to interiors that have a collected look. Whether its the colors, textures, layers or individual items, I always feel so inspired. Rooms without that tend to feel cold and unfinished. I try and give the rooms I design a curated feel and have listed a few of the ways I do that below.
Start collecting right now. I have pieces in my own home that are both meaningful and special, and then fillers. Now that I have started my art collection, I find myself so disappointed in the artwork I purchased just to fill a space. Through collecting art you’ll also find new artists that excite you.
Collect on your Travels
Whenever my husband and I travel, I always try and take a piece of it home with us. Whether that’s a piece of art, a tray or a rug, pick out something to bring home to remember those memories. This will create a truly curated look.
It doesn’t matter if you’re into all neutrals or bright colors, texture is needed in every space. Add it by mixing textiles, metals and materials.
Mix sources of lighting. Add sconces to your walls with a large overhead light fixture or table lamps mixed with art task lights. Lighting adds ambience and can enhance the textures in a space.
Now that you’ve started your collection, start layering. This gives you the most polished and completed look!
