Hostess with the Mostess

It's that time of year again - the holidays! I don't know about you, but I LOVE to host. There's something so fun about having your home filled with the people you love. In order to be the best host yet, I'm giving you my favorite ways to make all your guests feel at home.

Fresh Flowers

Just 1-2 days before my guests arrive, I like to run to Trader Joe's or a local flower market and pick up stems of whatever looks the freshest. When I get home I cut greenery from the yard and mix it in with the flowers. The more greenery, the better, in my opinion. I also like to mix the height of everything. Some really short, bushy pieces of greenery, and other long branches that stick out over the flowers. I always put a vase on the guest nightstand (without taking up the entire nightstand), the guest bathroom vanity and in the entryway. I also like to place some in the main common areas, such as the kitchen, living room and dining room. Fresh flowers make every home look chic!

Luxurious Linens

Nobody wants to sleep in scratchy and uncomfortable sheets. Upgrade your guests' stay by purchasing quality bed linens and towels. Maybe you don't purchase them specifically for your guest room, but use your extra set from your own bedroom for that weekend family comes to town. I promise luxurious linens won't go unnoticed.

New Toiletries

Pamper your guests! Give them a fresh bar of delicious smelling soap. And make sure all of your shampoo and conditioner actually has shampoo and conditioner in them. It's so easy to throw our old, unwanted shampoo in the guest shower, but think about what you would want to use. Purchase a small version of your favorite high-end shampoo and lotions and let your guests feel as if they're at the worlds greatest spa.

Plenty of Snacks

We're all familiar with hanger and it's side effects. I am totally one of those people that needs to eat a little something every 3 hours. This is probably why I am always very aware of how and when I will eat. It's always on my mind. Because of this I like to have plenty of snacks available to my company. I usually reach out and ask what they prefer to have for breakfast and lunch . This way if they wake up before me, I know they can help themselves in the kitchen.

Activities

The last thing you want is for your guests to feel bored. They took the time out of their schedule to visit you. Show them how awesome and fun you are! My mom is the queen at having board games ready. And my in-laws always set aside a new puzzle for each Christmas. As much as I may roll my eyes at my mom or laugh at the intensity of doing a puzzle, it is SO much fun. Those are the memories that are so special. Whether its scheduling a cooking class, organizing a croquet tournament or setting out a puzzle, let your guests have fun!
