Bunny Williams is one of the best designers to this day and I am constantly taking notes from her interiors. All of her rooms carry the same design principals, and it seems to be that if you follow these “rules” you will accomplish a wonderfully warm space that suits your aesthetic. I thought we could all benefit from a few bunny-isms so read below to see how she works her magic!
Always achieve warmth in a room
No matter if you’re a traditionalist or modernist, warmth is what keeps a space inviting. Wood is a great way to add warmth or create different lighting sources.
Whether you’re adding lamps, side tables or artwork, make sure you choose pieces that will last the test of time and aren’t overly trendy.
Use multiple materials in a room
Please don’t ever buy a matching set of furniture again. Try a glass coffee table, with metal and marble side tables and a chair with wooden legs. The mix of materials will create a truly eclectic, authentic and warm space.
“If you love something, it will work.”
One of my favorite quotes from Bunny, because it could not be more real. Don’t get caught up in the trends if it’s not your thing. We are all drawn to different pieces of furniture and artwork and if you absolutely have to have something, you can make it work in your space.
Find inspiration through travel
Not sure what you want to do with your space yet? Have patience and take notes on your travels. What is inviting to you? What excites you? How do they display art differently? I’m certain you’ll pick up at least one design idea on your next trip.
